The forecast: foreboding. Rain threatened Janeene and Garrett Schoenfelder’s outdoor wedding. But as the old Beatles song goes, “Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it’s all right.” As their guests started to arrive at the stunning David Girard Vineyard in Placerville, the gray clouds evaporated to reveal a brilliant blue sky to frame their nuptials. “We chose the vineyard because we loved the beautiful location and quiet country,” Janeene says.

Janeene and Garrett Schoenfelder were in the same graduating class of 1998 at Casa Roble High School in Orangevale. “In school, I had a huge crush on Garrett,” Janeene says, “but he didn’t know it.” In 2003 she attended a party, and they met again. They have been inseparable ever since. “He adds so much more to my life,” Janeene explains. “He is my rock...he is absolutely wonderful.”

“Janeene is my little firecracker,” Garrett says. “She is a strong woman and I look up to her a lot.” Garrett, an old fashioned kind of guy, asked Janeene’s dad for his daughter’s hand before proposing to her. “Getting married is a pretty big deal,” Garrett explains. “I felt it was in everyone’s best interest that everyone was okay with it.”

Once he got the thumbs up from his future father-in-law he didn’t waste a minute asking his future bride to wed. “Once I had the ring,” Garrett says, “I couldn’t wait to give it to her.”

On the wedding day, Garrett along with his two best men and groomsmen loved posing in their matching suits and plaid fedoras around the Tuscan columns that served as the back drop for the ceremony. “Both of my best friends stood up for me,” Garrett says. “I couldn’t pick one over the other.” Janeene chose her sister-in-law to be her matron-of-honor along with four bridesmaids. “I had two very good friends and two of my cousins also with me.” She says.

Family is everything for the couple, and so for those loved ones who could not attend, their photographer Lisa Richmond created a beautiful slide show and Web site of the wedding. “It shows the whole day,” Janeene explains. “It tells the story from start to finish.”

Immediately after the ceremony, the happiness of the moment hit them both. “I am so happy I got her to wear my ring,” Garrett explains. “We had been together for so long...this was the icing on the cake.” His new bride shared similar sentiments, “When he slipped the ring on my finger,” Janeene says, “I was so proud!”
The Drifter’s ‘50s classic “Some Kind of Wonderful” had the couple rocking on the dance floor for their first dance. The lyrics—“I just know when I’m in your embrace, this world is a happy place”—describe exactly how the newly married couple felt.

For the traditional father-daughter dance they chose Michael Maxwell’s “Moonlight Serenade.” The bride and her dad were joined by Garrett and his mom. They then invited all the other dads and daughters and moms and sons to join them on the dance floor.

It was a magnificent day!
