For Natasha and Stetson Scott, it took only a week to “know.“ The couple’s romance can truly be described as whirlwind. Four days after meeting at church, Scott told his mother he had found “the one.” Then five days later the couple met each other’s parents.

Both “feet-on-the-ground” types, they simply knew it was meant to be. Natasha, a focused pre-med student and self described work-a-holic, says she hadn’t been looking for anyone, but with Stetson everything was just natural. On their first date Stetson took her to the Folsom Bluffs. She laughs when she recalls, “I was thinking...what am I doing here in a relaxing environment?”

Several months later he took her back to the bluffs to reenact their first date. Candles, champagne from a previous trip to Napa, and a dinner similar to the one from their first date graced a nearby park table. “He’s a romantic, the things you see in movies,” says the bride.

Natasha (who emigrated from Russia 12 years ago) and Stetson (from a Scottish-Irish heritage) quickly related and reached out to each of their families and their traditions. “We’ve been using our cultures to bring us together, using it as the glue,” she says.
For both, a synergy of family heritage and traditions was a theme of their wedding day. With three months to plan the day, event designer and planner Kate Miller moved fast and developed Natasha’s fusion idea. She created a personalized crest with symbols from the couple’s Russian, Scottish and Irish heritages to incorporate in the invitations and throughout the décor. She even researched the flag from Natasha’s home city Moldova. “She is so awesome and crazy organized,” says Natasha about Kate. “I would not do a wedding without her.”

The wedding cake and bridesmaid dresses incorporated Stetson’s family plaid, and Natasha’s Russian heritage was present through the reception program and buffet of traditional Russian dishes. While there was no dancing due to honoring a Russian family tradition, a family friend emceed the reception and kept guests engaged through games. One required a member from each table to sing in order to allow the rest of the table to head to the buffet.
For photos, Natasha was ecstatic to engage Sarah Maren for their engagement and couple portrait photos. She says what sets Sarah’s work apart is her ability to catch the little moments and looks between couples. “We took pictures next to a dumpster and they looked good!”

Preparations were a family affair and everyone took part. Stetson’s mother created beautiful bouquets and flower displays and Natasha’s mother hemmed dresses and sewed table runners and sashes. No detail was overlooked including authentic kilt pins for the groomsmen’s boutonnieres. And being a musician, Stetson wrote the song for Natasha’s walk down the aisle.

Before heading off to a honeymoon in Pacific Grove, Natasha fondly remembers one of the best moments of their wedding celebration. She says it was at the end of the evening when things were winding down, when Stetson held her close and they were swaying to the music.

Anything else about your wedding?
We couldn’t have a first dance. But in the commotion of guests leaving, people talking, and waiting for our ride, our DJ turned on “electric feel” and Stetson and I swayed back and forth in an “enjoying our marriage” moment, knowing that this was our first dance.
